According to rumours, Arsenal has renewed their pursuit of Houssem Aouar this summer by submitting a transfer offer to Lyon.
Last summer, the Arsenal were hot on the trail of the French playmaker, but after a series of bids were turned down and they were told they would have to pay PS45 million for his services, they decided to sign Thomas Partey instead.
But, according to Le10Sport in France, Arsenal has made a new proposal to Lyon in order to ultimately acquire their man, with talks between the two teams said to be proceeding well.
Arsenal have renewed their interest in Houssem Aouar, who they showed interest in last summer. The amount they have offered has not been revealed, but the Gunners will be expecting to finally grab a bargain this summer.
Lyon is reportedly seeking for between EUR20 million (PS17 million) and EUR25 million (PS21 million) for Aouar.
The Gunners’ transfer budget is limited this summer after missing out on European football last season, however Lyon’s assessment of their playmaker will undoubtedly help them.
They will, however, face competition from other European teams for Aouar, whose contract with Lyon expires in the summer of 2023.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, is said to be a great fan of the 23-year-old, while Atletico Madrid has also inquired about Aouar.
Arsenal’s offer, on the other hand, could attract Lyon, who are eager to generate finances before recruiting this summer.
Mikel Arteta is anxious for some creativity in his Arsenal midfield after last season’s troubles. Arsenal’s alleged approach comes just hours after Aouar was forced to firmly refute ‘fake news’ allegations that he skipped Lyon’s first day of pre-season training to force through a summer transfer.
As the reports surfaced, Aouar revealed that he had been hospitalized with an ailment.
‘Unfortunately, another piece of phony news was spread via social media,’ he said.
‘I normally don’t respond to what’s been said about me.’
Over the weekend, I was sick and had to go to the hospital.
I’m doing a lot better now, and I’m ready for the next step.
‘I’d like to express my gratitude to people who have always stood with me, in both good and bad times.
