Ciro Immobile’s agent has slammed the ‘unfair criticism’ the Lazio and Italy striker has received as a result of his Euro 2020 performances.
The 31-year-old has started five of Italy’s six games so far, missing just the group stage victory against Wales, but has only scored two goals.
Immobile’s agent thinks that his client is one of the best attackers Italy has produced in recent years, and he is expected to start for Italy against England in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
Ciro Immobile, an Italian striker, has been chastised for his achievements at Euro 2020. He has appeared in five of Italy’s six games, scoring two goals so far. ‘I hear people talk about strikers in the past who in their entire careers scored a quarter of the goals Ciro has, and it’s starting to irritate me,’ Alessandro Moggi told Radio Radio.
‘Ciro Immobile has nothing left to prove; he has already demonstrated so much during his career and is unquestionably the most prolific Italian forward of recent years.’ Immobile has 15 goals in 51 appearances for the Azzurri, but his form for Lazio has been considerably more spectacular.
In the 2019/20 season, he earned the Golden Boot award after scoring 36 goals in 37 Serie A matches.
‘That makes me upset because if Immobile scores two goals each game, it’s seen as the standard and nobody makes a big deal about it, but if for some reason he doesn’t get the ball in the net, he becomes the primary problem of the Italy squad.’
‘This is something we’ve been reading for years,’ Moggi continued.
‘Then I read journalists bringing up the names of forwards who have scored 30-40 goals in their entire careers but are still regarded as individuals who can boost Italy’s performance, which implies to me that some people have a hidden agenda.’
It upsets me a lot.’ Last season, Immobile scored 25 goals in 41 games for Lazio, including five in the Champions League, and he has seven goals in his previous 13 international outings.
