Italy has arrived at Luton Airport ahead of their Euro 2020 final against England on Sunday. Manager Roberto Mancini (above) will be trying to lead the Azzurri to their second European title. Mancini was received by his close friend and official delegation head Gianluca Vialli.
Giorgio Chiellini, the captain and inspirational centre back, and Marco Verratti, the midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain, were close following.
Leonardo Spinazzola, who was one of the tournament’s best players before rupturing his Achilles in the quarter-final victory over Belgium, was also present on crutches to cheer his teammates.
The squad was dressed in smart grey blazers, including midfielder Marco Verratti (above). Wounded left back Leonardo Spinazzola was also present on crutches to cheer his teammates. The Azzurri were brought to penalties against Spain in their semi-final, finally winning 4-2 on spot-kicks, but have had an extra day to recover than England.
Mancini’s team has been consistently impressive in the tournament, surrendering just three goals, with defenders Chiellini (36) and Bonucci (34), midfielders Verratti and Jorginho, and wingers Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa all expected to play significant roles.
They’ll look to build on their only win in the tournament, which came against Yugoslavia in Rome in 1968 under the Dino Zoff and Giacinto Facchetti period.
