Barcelona Will Meet With Ousmane Dembeles Agent Next Week To Discuss His Future And A Potential New Contract According To The Club

According to rumours in Spain, Barcelona will meet with Ousmane Dembele’s agent next week to discuss his future at the club.

The 24-year-old has no intention of staying at Barcelona beyond the conclusion of his current contract, which expires in June next year, according to Sportsmail.

Last month, Mundo Deportivo claimed that talks on a contract extension had slowed due to concerns inside the team that the forward might have signed a pre-contract agreement with another club.

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to meet with Ousmane Dembele’s agent to talk his future Ronald Koeman and the club are determined to offer the French international a new contract. Nevertheless, the same publication now reports that the Catalan giants – despite their financial troubles, which have forced them to cut their wage bill after exceeding LaLiga’s salary cap by 40% – remain keen to discuss new terms with the France international.

According to the article, talks with his agent are planned to assess where his future lies, although Barcelona wants him to stay and believes he can still fulfill the potential that led to the club spending PS124 million on him in 2017.

Dembele is presently rehabilitating from a knee injury sustained while representing France versus Hungary at Euro 2020, which will keep him out of action until the end of October.

The 24-year-old French winger is presently out with a knee injury sustained at Euro 2020. The former Borussia Dortmund star had surgery on the problem in Finland at the end of last month, after missing most of December with Barcelona due to a similar problem.

Dembele joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer market four years ago for a base fee of EUR105 million (PS124 million) plus EUR40 million (PS34 million) in variables.

Last summer, the 24-year-old was allowed to leave because Ronald Koeman was not convinced of his abilities, but Dembele rebounded to score 11 goals in perhaps his greatest season at Camp Nou.

His rumored PS212,000-per-week deal would have allowed Barcelona to get rid of a high-earner while also bringing in a transfer fee to pull them out of their financial quagmire, but his injury appears to have put an end to that, and the possibility of him departing for free next summer now looms big.

Dembele scored 11 goals for Barcelona in 2020-21, but his contract is up in a year. The club is thought to be in debt of PS1 billion as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, and news of Messi agreeing to a 50% wage reduction on a new five-year contract was leaked on Wednesday.

Following talks with Atletico Madrid regarding a swap deal with midfielder Saul Niguez, the Catalan club is aiming to eliminate the salary of Dembele’s countrymen Antoine Griezmann from their wage sheet.

Due to its enormous salary bill, Barcelona has also been unable to register their new players Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Memphis Depay.
