Celtic have signed a deal with Vissel Kobe to recruit Japanese winger Kyogo Furuhashi, the J-League club confirmed on Friday.
The agreement was subject to a physical, according to Vissel Kobe’s website, but the transfer fee or other specifics were not disclosed.
Celtic are yet to make a statement on the deal.
Former Yokohama F Marinos head coach Ange Postecoglou, who went to Scotland last month after leading the Marinos to the J-League title in 2019, will coach Furuhashi.
Furuhashi, 26, earned his Japan debut against Venezuela in November 2019 but had to wait over a year for his second cap, which came in March 2019 in a 3-0 win over South Korea.
Furuhashi has three goals in six appearances for Japan, scoring twice in a 14-0 thumping of Mongolia in World Cup qualifying in March and then scoring against Tajikistan last month.
Furuhashi was a member of the Vissel Kobe team that won the Emperor’s Cup in 2019 and competed in the Asian Champions League for the first time last year when the club made its debut in the continental club competition.
With the arrivals of Liel Abada, Liam Shaw, and Osaze Urhoghide, Furuhashi might become Postecoglou’s fourth summer signing.
But, there could be exits from Celtic Park, with Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer’s futures still up in the air.
