Sassuolo are allegedly interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic, with the Serie A club making him their top priority if Manuel Locatelli leaves this summer.
Following his involvement in Italy’s Euro 2020 victory, Locatelli, 23, has piqued the interest of Juventus and Arsenal, with the Old Lady likely to have additional talks with their Italian rivals regarding a PS40 million transfer.
The energetic midfielder is set to leave Sassuolo this summer, and the Neroverdi are preparing contingency measures in case Locatelli agrees to a lucrative transfer.
Marko Grujic of Liverpool has been identified as Sassuolo’s top target ahead of a PS13 million deal. The 25-year-old may replace Manuel Locatelli, who has been connected with a PS40 million move to Juventus. According to Sky Sports, Grujic is Sassuolo’s top target to replace their Italian midfielder.
The 25-year-old has spent the last three seasons on loan at Hertha Berlin (2018-19 and 2019-20) and Porto (2020-21) after falling out of Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Anfield.
Grujic is valued at PS13 million by the Reds, despite only appearing in 16 Premier League games since his arrival in 2016.
Grujic, 25, has spent the last three seasons on loan and appears to be out of the Reds’ plans, according to the same report. Sassuolo’s recruitment manager Davide Cangini attempted to lure Grujic away from Liverpool two years ago when he worked for Atalanta.
Sassuolo are said to be in a situation where a move for the 25-year-old would be financially viable regardless of whether or not Locatelli is sold this summer.
Grujic was a regular for Porto last season, netting two goals in 39 appearances for the Portuguese giants, but he has returned to Liverpool for pre-season.
