Ajax Goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen Joins Brighton

What’s been said so far?
“Were happy to welcome Kjell to the team,” said manager Graham Potter.
He’s a guy we’ve been keeping an eye on for a while, and we think he’s got a lot of the appropriate qualities.
“We believe that, in addition to his size, he will work very hard to enhance all elements of his game as he adjusts to English football.”
“We’re excited to work with him,” said the club. What role will he play at Brighton?
Scherpen will play as a number 2/3 goalkeeper for Brighton, between first-choice Robert Sanchez and Jason Steele.
The Athletic understands he will be loaned out to help him improve, similar to what Brighton did with Sanchez and Christian Walton, who is leaving the club after eight years.
Maty Ryan, who was replaced by Sanchez in Potter’s team in December, is also leaving after a loan spell at Arsenal as part of the goalkeeping group’s revamp.
Scherpen, who is he?
Prior to Brighton’s interest in signing him permanently, Scherpen was on his way to PEC Zwolle on loan.
After joining Ajax for PS1.3 million from Emmen, where he made 34 appearances in the Dutch top flight, he has only played three games in two years.
For Erik ten Hag’s Eredivisie champions, Scherpen is behind Cameroon’s Andre Onana and ex-Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg in the pecking order.
Former Ajax teammate and Dutch Euro 2020 squad defender Joel Veltman will join Scherpen at the Amex.
Is there anything more I should know?
Even at his current height, Scherpen is thought to be continuously growing.
Brighton’s 6ft 7ins defender Dan Burn will have someone to look up to, which is unusual.
