Despite the Italian star’s intention to stay in Serie A for his next move, Arsenal are willing to pay the EUR40 million estimate for Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli, according to Fabrizio Romano.
After shining at Euro 2020, where he scored twice and helped the Azzurri defeat England in the final, the 23-year-old is due to meet with Sassuolo to negotiate a move away from the club.
Locatelli is thought to favor a move to Juventus, ruling out Arsenal despite their willingness to pay the transfer fee.
The Gunners are thought to be looking for players who are 100% committed to the club.
Yet, it might also be influenced by Juve’s own financial condition and midfield outgoings.
Following a successful loan spell with AC Milan, Locatelli joined Sassuolo in 2019 for a sum of around EUR14.5 million.
He has made over 140 Serie A appearances in his career, 99 of which have been with his current club, and has pleased Roberto Mancini enough to receive an international call-up.
Arsenal is said to be on a buying frenzy this summer, with this deal being one of many.
Brighton’s Ben White, Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, and Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga have all been linked with a PS50 million move to Arsenal.
After failing to qualify for European competition for the first time in 25 seasons, the club’s planned recruitment revamp should help them go back into contention.

CLaudio Villa/Getty Images PAPER GOSSIP – According to the Daily Mail, Brighton are interested in signing Getafe left winger Marc Cucurella.
The 22-year-old is presently a member of Spain’s Olympic squad in Tokyo, among a number of well-known teenagers.
After a good loan spell with Barcelona, the player joined Getafe in 2020 for around PS9 million.
His current deal, however, includes a PS15 million buy-out provision that, if used, would allow him to join the Seagulls.
– According to the Sun, Liverpool are planning to sell defender Ben Davies just months after he joined the club.
The 25-year-old arrived from Preston North End in January during an injury crisis, but he also missed time due to injury, failing to play a single minute in a red shirt.
But, with the arrival of Ibrahima Konate and the return of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip, a stay in Merseyside is improbable.
Sheffield United is reportedly interested, but only on a loan basis rather than permanently.
– According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma have identified Palmeiras left-back Matias Vina as a summer target.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, where Jose Mourinho is seeking for a replacement for Leonardo Spinazzola, who is presently out with an Achilles injury sustained at Euro 2020.
Roma has apparently put together a deal around EUR12.5 million for the Uruguayan defender, including add-ons, in the hopes of completing the transfer from Brazilian side in the coming days.
– According to Calciomercato, Napoli has entered the competition to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Atalanta of Serie A, but the two clubs have yet to agree a contract, allowing Napoli to enter the fight for his signing.
The Dutch international rose through the ranks at AZ, appearing in over 100 league games before making his international debut in October 2020.
– According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Everton are close to signing wingers Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend.
Gray, 25, is expected to join Rafa Benitez’s side for PS1.5 million from Bayer Leverkusen, but he only appeared in 10 Bundesliga games this season, scoring one goal and assisting on two occasions.
Townsend, 30, is a free agent, having spent five years with Crystal Palace.
Almost 200 Premier League outings and 13 England caps later, the former England international is still going strong.
