Denis Zakaria Would Rather Transfer Than Sign A New Contract With Borussia Monchengladbach

According to the club’s sporting director, Denis Zakaria ‘prefers a move’ over a new contract at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing the defensive midfielder.
In addition, Monchengladbach president Max Eberl admitted that the club is battling to sign the 24-year-old to a new contract amid speculation about a move to the Premier League.
Denis Zakaria (pictured) has declared that he would rather ‘prefers a transfer’ away from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer than sign a new deal with the club, according to sporting director Max Eberl. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder represented Switzerland twice at Euro 2020 this summer.
Although vying with captain Granit Xhaka and Atalanta’s Remo Freuler for a spot in the midfield double pivot, the 34-cap international played twice for Switzerland at Euro 2020, including in the quarter-final they lost on penalties to Spain.
Former Young Boys star Zakaria is tipped as one of Europe’s most promising players, but he might quit Adi Hutter’s side after they finished ninth in the Bundesliga and lost out on European qualification by a single point last season.
City and Arsenal, led by Pep Guardiola, have shown interest, however Arsenal’s lack of continental competition may work against them.
‘When he comes back, we’ll see what opportunities occur,’ Eberl said, adding that the club is desperate to keep defender Matthias Ginter, who is allegedly desired by both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
