How Francesco Pinellis Slovenian Hockey Experience Boosted His Nhl Draft Profile In 2021

Inside Toronto’s Westwood Arena, Francesco Pinelli is half-dressed in his hockey gear as he sits in a plastic chair 6 feet from Shane Wright and Brennan Othmann.
As part of the COVID-19 protocols that allow them to be here, the dressing rooms are closed, so their sticks lie against the Rink 5 glass, and their bags have been unfolded in the tight space that goes around the boards.
Some of the other 12 top NHL prospects who have joined them flood out into the corridors and benches that have been dragged outside into the concrete passageway behind the arena.
Locally, it’s the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures approaching 34 degrees Celsius and a humidity index that makes it feel even hotter, but the stickiness of the outside has faded away inside, where Pinelli is all smiles as he prepares for an 11 a.m. meeting.
Power Edge Professionals (PEP) held a three-day program in Toronto in July.
The 15 players are joined by five instructors in branded masks and a number of other workers who check the players in for this (the second of three) skate.
Warm sweaters, workout shirts, and caps are being unpacked onto a table outside for the players to take home when they’re done.
Pinelli, Othmann, and Wright talk about when their OHL clubs have requested them to report, with dates ranging from the end of August to the beginning of September.
Pinelli formally reminds them that today is a momentous day since Italy (Pinelli’s parents, Frank and Daniela, are both Italian) is playing Denmark in the Euro 2020 semifinals.
PEP, one of hockey’s premier skills consultancies, is owned and operated by Nick and Joe Quinn, who greet them with a joke over how long it has been since they last saw them.
Wright and Othmann have been buddies since their days as linemates with the Don Mills Flyers in minor hockey.
