The transfer of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka to Roma has reportedly hit a snag, with the two clubs unable to agree on a fee.
According to La Stampa, Xhaka has been courted by Roma throughout the transfer window, but the Italian club is now hesitant to meet Arsenal’s expectations of a PS17 million cost.
The 28-year-old has allegedly accepted personal terms with Roma, but a move to Jose Mourinho’s side has been put on hold for the time being.
The projected transfer of Granit Xhaka from Roma to Arsenal has been put on hold, according to reports. Jose Mourinho wants to buy Xhaka, but Roma are unwilling to match Arsenal’s PS17 million valuation. Arsenal have signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht and could still sign another midfielder, showing that they are preparing for life without Xhaka.
Xhaka is set to return to Arsenal training soon after representing Switzerland at Euro 2020 this summer, and he will be looking for a swift resolution to his future.
Despite having two years left on his contract, Xhaka’s future appears to be away from Emirates Stadium, albeit it remains to be seen whether a agreement with Roma can be reached.
If a deal with Arsenal cannot be reached, Mourinho may have to go elsewhere to enhance his midfield. Mourinho is eager to improve his midfield but may have to look elsewhere if a deal with Arsenal cannot be reached.
Xhaka has made 220 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Basel five years ago, winning two FA Cups in the process.
