Varane, who joined Real for preseason last Friday, is said to have reached an agreement with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on personal terms.
The France international did not play in Real Madrid’s first official preseason game, a 2-1 loss to Glasgow Rangers, and instead stayed in Madrid to practice alongside many other club players who will compete in Euro 2020.
Varane also took part in a practice on Monday morning at the club’s training field, Valdebebas, alongside Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and the club’s first summer addition David Alaba.
Before representing France at Euro 2020, the 28-year-old finished his tenth season at Real Madrid.
He has rejected down offers to prolong his stay in Madrid beyond next summer, when his contract expires, and ESPN reports that he is eager to move on to a new challenge, preferably in the Premier League.
Varane, who made 41 appearances in the 2020-21 season, is said to be valued at at least EUR50 million by Real Madrid.
United were close to signing the centre-back, according to ESPN on July 1, with Solskjaer eager to reinforce his defense ahead of the new Premier League season.
On August 1, United host Leeds United at Old Trafford.
