Marcus Bettinelli An England Goalkeeper Is Expected To Join Chelsea On A Free Transfer

Chelsea are expected to finalize the signing of Marcus Bettinelli, a former England international goalkeeper.
The former Fulham goalkeeper, who turned down offers from Aston Villa, has agreed a two-year contract with the European champions and is poised to join the Blues on a free transfer in the coming days after his contract at Craven Cottage expired.
In the next 48 hours, Bettinelli will finish his medical and join with the club.
Marcus Bettinelli is expected to join Chelsea on a free transfer.
Bettinelli spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough (pictured) before his Fulham contract expired. He had been at Fulham for nearly a decade and will now move across west London. Chelsea have been looking for a new goalkeeper since Willy Caballero left at the end of last month.
Bettinelli will provide backup to first-choice Edouard Mendy and challenge for No. 2 Kepa Arrizabalaga if the transaction does not fall through at the last minute.
Crucially, the 29-year-old will bolster Chelsea’s in-house talent.
The Blues have beaten Villa to the signing of Bettinelli, who is also wanted by Dean Smith.
In 2018, Bettinelli was summoned into England’s squad for games against Spain and Switzerland. He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he played a significant role in Neil Warnock’s team’s failure to qualify for the play-offs.
Gareth Southgate brought Bettinelli into the England team following a succession of strong performances for Fulham during the 2017/18 season, but the club’s relegation back to the Championship ultimately put an end to his international ambitions.
But, he is expected to return to the Premier League next season.
