Xherdan Shaqiri Is Garnering Interest From Europe But A Trade For Federico Chiesa Is Doubtful

While Liverpool are unlikely to make a deal for Italy’s Euro 2020 prospect Federico Chiesa, Xherdan Shaqiri’s future at Anfield might be decided this week amid interest from Spanish and Italian clubs.
Shaqiri’s outstanding achievements at Euro 2020, where he helped Switzerland reach the quarter-finals with three goals in five games, have piqued the interest of a number of clubs.
Sevilla and Villarreal, both in La Liga, were interested in signing the 29-year-old on loan in the past, but are now looking for a permanent deal.
Lazio and Napoli, two Italian clubs, are also keeping an eye on Shaqiri and have contacted his representatives.
The winger’s current deal has only one year left on it, but Liverpool has the option to extend it for another 12 months.
Shaqiri joined Liverpool from Stoke three years ago and, although mostly being utilized as a squad player during that time, has helped the club win the Premier League and the Champions League.
If Shaqiri leaves Liverpool, Chiesa is unlikely to replace him at Anfield.
The club is interested in the 23-year-old, who helped his country win Euro 2020 this summer, but they are not going to pursue him further because he is too expensive.
The fact that Chiesa is just halfway through a two-year loan deal at Juventus, who have agreed to buy him from Fiorentina in 2022, complicates any move for him.
With their current playing personnel and what they perceive to be a dearth of availability in the market, Liverpool’s stance on squad strengthening this summer is that they are unlikely to be very active.
