Rafael Varane Has Agreed To Join Manchester United From Real Madrid

(1:12) Manchester United stated on Tuesday that Raphael Varane has agreed to a contract with Real Madrid.
United will pay an initial fee of EUR41 million for the defender, with an further EUR8.2 million in add-ons.
Madrid has agreed to pay Varane’s former club Lens a solidarity payment.

“Manchester United is thrilled to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the acquisition of French international defender and World Cup champion Raphael Varane, subject to a medical and player terms being finalised,” the club said in a statement. The 28-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract with the option of an add-on after his medical.
Varane has spent ten years with Real Madrid, winning La Liga three times and the Champions League four times, but he has suggested that he will not be extending his contract this summer.

“Real Madrid wishes Raphael Varane and his family all the best in this new step of his professional career,” the club said. Despite losing fellow centre-back Sergio Ramos to PSG on a free transfer, the Spanish giants have decided to cash in now rather than risk losing Varane on a free transfer next summer.
After Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, he will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third summer acquisition, bringing United’s total investment in the transfer window to more than PS100 million.
On August 1, Solskjaer’s side will face Leeds United at Old Trafford in the start of the new season.
The Old Trafford club also disclosed that defender Alex Telles is expected to miss the start of the season due to an ankle injury that will keep him out until September.
After slipping and twisting his ankle in preseason training last week, the Brazilian left-back incurred the injury, and Solskjaer first stated that he would be “out for a few weeks.”
“Unfortunately, the news on Alex Telles is not as good as we had anticipated; his ankle injury is a little bit more serious than we had thought, and he’ll be out for at least a month,” Solskjaer stated.
