As He Approaches A Move To Psg Lionel Messi Posters Are Being Torn Down Outside Barcelonas Camp Nou Stadium

On Tuesday, Lionel Messi’s face was taken from the Camp Nou stadium outside Barcelona as the Argentine nears a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
The 34-year-old’s surprising exit from the Spanish club was announced last week, and Messi gave an emotional press conference on Sunday to bid farewell to the club where he spent his entire career.
On Tuesday, Sportsmail reported that he is due to sign a two-year contract with PSG earning PS500,000 per week, and Barcelona have begun their new era by removing photos of their former captain from the club’s surroundings.
On Tuesday, a giant billboard of Lionel Messi and other Barcelona stars was removed from the side of Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium. Messi took center stage in a large image of various Barcelona stars, including goalie Marc-Andre Ter-Stegen, Gerard Pique, and Antoine Griezmann, but construction workers removed the strips exposing Messi’s face.
Following Messi’s departure, the full poster on the side of Barcelona’s 99,000-seater stadium was dismantled, and club officials were also spotted removing smaller, street-side posters with Argentina’s face on them.
The Argentine striker, who scored 672 goals in 778 games for Barcelona and won 35 championships in the process, will go to France on Tuesday to finalize his free transfer to PSG, barely over 48 hours after bidding farewell to Barcelona.
At a goodbye press conference, an emotional Messi sobbed and demanded that the club treat him with ‘humility and respect’ once he left.
As the Argentine left the Catalan club last week, club officials were spotted tearing down any poster with Messi’s face on it on Tuesday. ‘I tried to behave with humility and respect, and I hope it is what remains of me when I leave the club,’ Messi said.
The Catalans agreed to a new contract with the Argentine over the summer, but due to Barcelona’s financial difficulties, the transaction was not approved by LaLiga.
‘I took a 50% pay cut and we had finalized the deal,’ he added.
I was not asked to do anything else by the club.
They never asked me to take another 30% cut, that’s a lie.
We did everything we could to help.
In his goodbye speech, Messi called for humility and respect from the Barcelona community. ‘Honestly, when the elections came (in March), I spoke with (club president Joan) Laporta, we had dinner, and I was confident I would be staying,’ he added.
‘It was never about my contract.
What I do know is that I gave it my all.
Because of LaLiga, the club claims it will not be possible.
‘I can assure you that I did everything in my power to remain.’
Last year, I didn’t want to and said so, but this year was different.’ After the news of Messi’s free transfer last week, several members of the Barcelona first team, as well as club icons from the past, attended a press conference to give one of the club’s best ever players an appropriate send-off.
On the night that Barcelona revealed Messi would be leaving the club on Wednesday, a number of Catalans fans gathered at the Camp Nou to voice their disappointment with the decision.
Barcelona has also been advised that retiring Messi’s No. 10 shirt will cost them a spot in the team’s matchday roster for the future season.
According to Spanish FA rules, LaLiga teams must give the numbers 1 to 25 to their 25-man rosters for each league campaign.
PSG fans have been waiting for Messi to arrive at the Parc des Princes all week. Meanwhile, Messi is expected to be met by tens of thousands of fans in Paris who will gather around PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium and Le Bourget airport to grab a sight of French football’s biggest new star.
Messi’s attorneys had been deliberating over PSG’s contract proposal since Sunday, but gave it their blessing on Tuesday morning.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner’s image rights, as well as the breakdown of his earnings and different bonuses, are thought to have been the final points of negotiation.
On Wednesday, at the Parc des Princes, a press conference will be held to welcome Messi to the club.
