The Goal Of Automakers Is Still To Win On Sunday And Sell On Monday 2

By JENNA FRYER, AP Auto Racing Writer DETROIT (AP) — For auto dealers, the traditional adage was “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday,” but the shifting economy made the task more difficult.
Notwithstanding the difficulties, prominent automakers still regard racing as a valuable marketing tool for their vehicles.
Most of the leading brands compete in some type of auto racing, both to demonstrate their performance and to transfer some of the technology from motorsports to production cars.
This year, a number of automakers have used racing events to preview forthcoming street vehicles.
