The Goal Of Automakers Is Still To Win On Sunday And Sell On Monday

By JENNA FRYER, AP Auto Racing Writer DETROIT (AP) — The traditional adage for car salesmen was “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday,” but the shifting economy made it more difficult.
Notwithstanding the difficulties, prominent automakers still regard racing as a valuable marketing tool for their vehicles.
Most of the leading brands compete in some type of auto racing, both to demonstrate their performance and to transfer some of the technology from motorsports to production cars.
This year, a number of automakers have used racing events to preview forthcoming street vehicles.
