The Blues fired Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning, and they moved quickly to hire Brighton manager Potter, with the Seagulls granting Potter permission to speak with Chelsea.
Potter is interested in joining the club, but he is understandably hesitant after witnessing how Tuchel was treated.
The Blues spent nearly £300 million in the summer transfer window, but Tuchel was fired less than a week later, despite being given unprecedented levels of influence over the club’s business.
Potter has waited patiently for his chance at a top job and though talks have progressed rapidly in the last 24 hours, he’s yet to make a decision on the move.
Chelsea have therefore made contingency plans, and SkySports reports that Sporting boss Amorim has discussed a move to Stamford Bridge with Boehly.

Potter is still the favorite. (Image courtesy of Getty) The Portuguese coach has drawn praise from across Europe for the attacking football he has introduced to Lisbon’s green quarter.
The 37-year-old led the club to the league title in 2021, and he has a 71% win percentage in his two years in the capital.
While Potter is still considered the favorite, it is not impossible for the Englishman to decline the position.
Amorim is thus seen as a viable alternative due to his attacking style of play and willingness to work in Chelsea’s set-up.
