He may not have returned, but Arsene Wenger has revealed why he turned down other jobs

Arsene Wenger, an Arsenal legend, has claimed that he turned down offers from rival clubs because of his ties to our club, and that he never returned to north London because he believed he would be a distraction. The Frenchman will always be remembered at the Emirates for leading us to the incredible Invincibles season of 2003-04 while we were based at Highbury, as well as a number of other memorable campaigns during his 22-year tenure. Wenger now insists that he fully understands why they split up in 2018, before claiming that he also turned down a number of other jobs, including a return to the club. ‘No, I wasn’t there.’ After 22 years, I may have reached a fork in the road, and people wanted a change, which I can understand,’ Wenger said at the launch of David Dein’s latest book. ‘I was always loyal to the club and turned down many, many clubs because I felt my life was inextricably linked with the club,’ she says. The club has taken a different path, which I completely understand, and sometimes you have to change everything to start over. ‘I stayed away completely to give the club the opportunity to rebuild a new relationship with a new manager.’ That’s why I never mentioned Arsenal and never returned to the club because I didn’t want to be a presence that was potentially detrimental to the club.’ While I understand that his return to the club’s board could pose a threat to the hierarchy, I believe Mikel Arteta would benefit from his input, and the fact that they were previously at the club together would mean that there would be no need for an awkward situation to arise as a result of Wenger. With a number of managerial changes in England’s top flight over the years, it seems reasonable that other Premier League clubs would have been interested in him as well, and I’m relieved that we haven’t had to compete with him in any way. Could you have seen him in one of our rivals’ dugouts, perhaps at Manchester United? PatrickTO ALL ARSENAL FANS!
