Pep Guardiola compares Erling Haaland’s goal against Borussia Dortmund to Johan Cruyff and Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Following his goal against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised striker Erling Haaland. The late Johan Cruyff and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to the Spanish tactician, inspired the strike.
City dominated the final six minutes of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Dortmund. Joao Cancelo whipped in a cross with the outside of his right boot with the score level at 1-1. Haaland acrobatically stretched to guide the ball into the net.

Guardiola’s team then held on for their second win of the Champions League group stages, keeping them atop Group G. After the game, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Erling Haaland for the way he took his goal, saying (as quoted by ESPN): “Maybe the people who know me know the influence Johan Cruyff had on my life as a person, a mentor, and years ago he scored an incredible goal in Camp Nou for Barcelona against Atletico Madrid.”

Guardiola went on: “When Erling scored, I thought it was very, very similar. Erling is quite similar to my dear friend Ibrahimovic, who has this ability to put his leg on the roof.”
The former Barcelona manager went on to say: “I believe it is in his nature; he is elastic and flexible, and he can make contact and put the ball in the net. I believe his parents give him that freedom.”

Erling Haaland has had a fantastic start to his career at Manchester City.
Erling Haaland’s adaptation to life at Manchester City has been nothing short of spectacular.
The Norwegian faced criticism for his poor performance in the FA Community Shield after joining from Borussia Dortmund for around £51 million this summer. He responded to that criticism, however, by scoring a brace on his Premier League debut against West Ham United.

Since then, Haaland has grown from strength to strength. He has scored in five of City’s six league games this season, while also providing an assist in the other. In two Champions League matches, the forward has also scored three goals.
Erling Haaland has been on fire since the Community Shield defeat to Liverpool, scoring 13 goals in eight games. Few would argue that he won’t add to his tally when Manchester City face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this weekend.
